I garden on a hilltop just outside Sudbury, ON in what is supposed to be climate zone 4a or b, but just to be ornery, I’ve been growing a Japanese Maple in my front yard since 2003. It doesn’t grow fast, but it also doesn’t die. Over the years it has grown from a tiny Toronto-born seedling to about four feet high. I cover it each fall in a burlap tent and it seems quite content to show off there all summer long.
