The Fountain of Youth
We all know the Fountain of Youth is figment of mythology, right? Well, if ever there was a case for discovering this mythological utopia, I think I have found it, and it is dressed up as Manon Larose HD, a Classical Homeopathic doctor practicing in Sudbury, ON. I visited her Dec. 8, 2010 and participated in a very lengthy interview. At the end of it, she simply said “come back in two days and I will have your remedy.”
The key word in homeopathy is ‘remedy’. Her goal is to heal permanently, not treat symptoms. Homeopathy places great faith in the body’s ability to heal itself. I have been on Lorazepam, a narcotic designed to treat my sleeping disorders, for over three years, and also on Pantoloc, to treat an acid reflux condition. After five years with no family doctor, we now have a new one, thanks to the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, and she told me that she wanted me off the Lorazepam, but did not offer any alternative solution to my sleeping problems. Thankfully, our new doc told me right up front that she had no problem with me seeking help from alternate care practitioners.
Typically, you take a homeopathic remedy once and then let it work. Manon told me that it will work instantly, or it is the wrong treatment. On the morning of Dec.15, 2010, I took my first dose of the remedy. Within ten minutes, my hands became warm. Both Manon’s questioning and examination of my blood cells using a dark field microscope by Sue Pellerin, a Certified Nutritionist /Live Blood Microscopist, had indicated circulatory problems, among other things.
The list of beneficial changes in my health are numerous. Some of them follow:
* Totally off Pantoloc and Lorazepam since early January. Had a few battles to fight in that time, but I won, or should I say “my body won”
* Sleep all night and wake up refreshed, usually after a little more than six hours sleep. Occasionally I will get a bit more sleep than that, but don’t seem to require more than I am getting.
* Wine and coffee no longer interfere with my sleep, regardless of when I consume them.
* Not starving hungry by mealtimes, just ready to eat. Also used to be grouchy when hungry – not any more. Also don’t seem to eat as much.
* Used to have heavy scaling dead skin on my heels. Has been getting worse for the last two years. I could break off large chunks of dead skin. Almost totally healed to fresh new skin.
* Don’t have near as many arthritic pains as I used to have, especially in my knees. Not perfect yet, but the healing continues, so I expect more improvement here too.
* Used to get a lot of cold sores as a result of strong mental or physical stress and I would have to treat them with a zinc based product or suffer the consequences of a scarred face for a few days. i have had two cold sores begin to erupt, but my body killed them both without any medications.
So was my money well spent? You bet! Too bad the health care system won’t recognize the value of alternative medical treatments such as homeopathy. It could save the taxpayers a fortune.

Losing Weight
Since this blog is intentionally very eclectic, no topic is really off topic for me. Makes blogging a lot easier, a lot more fun, and I hope a lot more interesting for my readers. Sooo, since we’re just past the season of too much good stuff and into the season of heading for the gym, I thought I’d add my experience with losing weight. It was easy and painless and required very little discipline.
One year ago I weighed in at 194 lbs. This morning I weighed in at 183.5 lbs. Don’t ask me how many kgs. that is because I don’t know… well actually, it’s exactly the same weight, just with different numbers
I didn’t feel real comfortable at 194 and my shirts didn’t fit the way I thought they should… had this funny round protuberance out front. So what’s to be done? I started watching this protuberance, just to see if it was going to grow for another nine months or so. It didn’t! Thank God!
I needed to do something, and I knew diets don’t work. Then I discovered a little book through the self improvement and gifting section of my greeting card company, titled The Slight Edge, by Jeff Olson. Olson talks about making changes in our life philosophy, doesn’t talk much about eating, but about the outcomes we expect from life, and how to make them a reality. I took Mr. Olson’s advice and started applying it to a lot of things, my eating habits included. I eat ice cream (real stuff – hate all that low fat food), use whole milk, eat butter tarts, mashed potatoes and gravy, use real butter, even had a couple of Poutines during the year… you get the picture… big fat guy… NOT! Well at least not real fat. Still some room for improvement, but I’m content with my progress. Let’s see what another year brings. So did I think myself thin. Not really. But I did have to have the right mindset. I wanted to do something about that protuberance so I just started eating a little bit less of everything. It was that simple. And I went from a size large to as size medium. shirt. Never thought just ten lbs. would make that difference.
Just had a stress test and that showed clear. Blood pressure is sitting at 125/60 or thereabouts. Cholesterol is way down, (but my MD doesn’t like the ratio… never satisfied). I intend to keep it that way too. No use wasting good genes.
One more thing has to be added to the mix this year. ALL of my health care team are telling me to get my butt into a gym. Staying active with yard work doesn’t seem to cut it for them… and I know they’re right. So once the post Christmas rush is over at the gyms, there will be room for me.
Well dear reader, I don’t want to make an essay out of this. So I’ll continue to apply Olson’s words here, as at the dinner table, and just say fewer of them. Thanks.
January 1, 2011
I’m sitting here in our Rec Room, and except for the purring of the fan on our wood burning fireplace insert, there is absolutely no noise. The tree lights are glowing and twinkling and the cats are keeping me company while my wife gets a few well-earned extra ZZZZZ’s. Peace & contentment reigns… and I am thankful.
Thankful for creature comforts, for new found health through Dr. Manon Larose (Homeopathic doctor), for the opportunities in growing my two companies (with the help of my business coach Ene Querney) , for a great daughter and son-in-law, for a wife who makes the best butter tarts on the planet, for having both of my parents when most people my age (66) have already attended two funerals (mom is 86 and dad is 92 – and both have most all of their faculties and still live on their own), for friends who care… and a God who loves me (and you).
I’m also thankful that this website is now functional, and I will post on that in the next few days, as well as my homeopathic experience, and lots of other good stuff that is happening faster than I can make blog entries.
For now dear friends, HAPPY NEW YEAR!
